Challenge / Goal
In an increasingly digital world, charitable organisations are struggling to get in touch with local citizens and to find new volunteers, as they cannot keep pace with digital trends and platforms. Young people are especially hard to reach, but the charitable organisations need them in order to survive. During the pandemic, getting in touch with (young) people was even harder for these organisations, in Lüneburg and elsewhere. In addition, lots of financial investment would be necessary to get any significant visibility on social media platforms.
Solution
Our solution is a web-based matching tool, which allows users to easily and playfully find the perfect volunteering opportunity. Users answer a series of short questions about their personal interests and learn which local initiatives are their best match. The tool helps interested people to get an overview and to find the right initiative. In return, the initiatives have the advantage of attracting new members and becoming a part of the local volunteering network.
The Mitwirk-O-Mat in Lüneburg contains nearly 70 local initiatives. The result of the questions is tailoured to the local network and what the focus of the iniatives is.
Citizen participation
We shared our idea with multiple local organisations and citizens in order to develop a needs-oriented process and product. Creating the questions was a participatory process, as was the publication of the finished Mitwirk-O-Mat.
